guil.ty con.science plea bar.gain.ing n: an ego defense mechanism whereby someone is caught in wrongdoing, but doesn't have sufficient self esteem to admit the complete extent of the wrongdoing.

ex: "Cary's pathetic attempt at guitly conscience plea bargaining only worsened his credibility."
